From Hotel Room To Home

Five months ago, I awoke in the same bed I just up from, feeling like I was a visitor staying in a hotel room.

I hadn’t moved in with Barry, I was just stopping by. We didn’t know what the future held, so in essence, I was just visiting my friend and business partner.

And his condo seemed to me to be very hotel-like. At the time I blamed it on the design; the twin sinks, the tub with the flip-up plug and the frosted glass shower doors. I had a lot of experience staying in hotel rooms at the time, and I swear, this felt like it.

After I officially moved in with Barry, I still had random thoughts of “just visiting”. Since it had been his place before, it felt like I was staying at “his place”, and not “our home”.

But since then I have realized that it’s not about the place.

What we’ve always heard is true: Home is where the heart is.

Home is what you make it.

A Parrot In A Pine Tree…

Barry and I just finished decorating our Christmas tree.

Yes, we got it last week… and it was sitting there naked for a few days.

But we wanted to take the time to enjoy decorating it together, as a family, because time spent together is a lot more important than getting a task done.

In a bit of a fun spirit, we decided to put his parrot puppet on the top of the tree. I had mentioned that it would fit, but I was only half serious…

But sometimes being different, just for the fun of it, is important… because it’s much better to have fun than to try to do things because others say we “should”.

So as a result… rather than a partridge in a pear tree, we have a parrot in a pine tree.

Here’s a video we shot of Pasquel on top, and me in front of the tree (with Mercury and Jupiter) — including an explanation of this blog, for the people that have been asking what its purpose is:

Season’s Greetings… and Keep Unwrapping the Mysteries of Life!

Strings, Earrings and Charcoal Things

Barry and Heather in charcoalThis afternoon, Barry and I took a trip to Ashland to see Zeb Lancaster, our Rolfer who wanted to try a new relationship coaching technique on us.

He apparently did that for 15 years before becoming a Rolfer, and has a new office with bigger treatment rooms, so he needed some “guinea pigs” to try out some exercises.

The main thing we did was to see how close to each other was “comfortable” while still maintaining our own space. But we actually preferred to be close together, touching each other in a sort of embrace, which can apparently potentially cause problems, just like being too distanced can.

If you’re “too close” to each other, then when one person gets upset or emotional, both end up getting rocked because they’re in the same boat.

When you can have some distance from each other — still remain connected, but be centered in your own space — then one can rock his or her own boat while the other remains steady and supportive.

It was a very interesting experience, because I never would have thought that.

So we used colored strings to map out on the floor where our own space was, as well as a part where the strings wound together… showing togetherness and individuality at the same time.

When you’re dealing with relationships, which are mirrors… especially when the mirror is as reflective as ours is sometimes… you can lose that individuality if you’re not careful.

A Psychic Communication Hat Trick

Three times today, Barry and I were so psychically connected it was uncanny.

These little episodes happen quite often with us… but three times is a good scoring trick. In hockey, that’s a hat trick! ;-)

Earlier today I went to get one of my special massages from Donna Schmid. In my opinion, her massages are the best deal I’ve ever found, because it’s not JUST a Swedish or therapeutic massage; it actually affects me more on the spiritual level than on the physical.

The special ingredient that makes her massages so unique, and so valuable, is that she asks the client to come up with an intention before the massage begins.

Not just a physical intention (like, “I’d like to have my upper back worked on because I’m holding some tension there”) but a whole-body intention, that works on the body, mind and spirit too.

Donna taught me to always have an intention when meditating (rather than just letting the thoughts wander where they like), and now she has taught me to always have an intention when getting a massage.

This takes the experience to the next level no matter what you do… even if it’s getting a manicure or pedicure done.

No matter what you’re doing, always have an intention (especially if you’re able to relax and be in your own little mental world while you’re doing it).

The hat trick that Barry and I shared started with my massage-session intention…

Tuning Up The Body And Spirit

appleBarry and I just finished a three-day detox program where we only ate fruit and drank carrot juice.

I expected to be able to pull it off with no problem — after all, I eat a lot of fruit and healthy foods every day anyhow — but I thought Barry, being a big guy who loves his protein, would have problems.

The most important thing we did at the start of it was commit to ourselves, and to each other, that we were in it together and planned to finish the full three days without cheating.

And even though there were ups and downs… we did just that…

Blessed Are the Blissful… Bring on the Spa

Yesterday I had my first facial at a spa. Yes, I went to a spa in Las Vegas, and got a massage… but I’ve never had a professional treatment put on my face.

It was part of the birthday present that Barry got me… a gift certificate to the new Spa at Club Northwest, the gym that we go to. And the certificate is good for several treatments. Guys, if you want a gift that will make your woman think very highly of you, a gift certificate to a spa is a great choice!

Spa = The epitome of blissfulness.

Gift Certificate = She will think of you while she’s being pampered… and her thoughts will be around gratitude, appreciation and love (and she gets to choose her own treatments — even better!)

This spa had a different vibe than in Vegas. Everything in Vegas seems very mechanical, with a certain money-focused get-em-in and get-em-out machinery in place. The one in Grants Pass is more spiritual in feel, which generates more of a relaxing feeling… and that’s really the point, right?

To start off with, they offered a selection of drinks, including some local Southern Oregon wines. I chose a Cabernet Sauvignon, which to me helped me get into the mindset of being pampered, which in turn kicked the gratitude into place. After all, how often do you enjoy and savor a nice glass of wine in the middle of the afternoon? (Not something I advocate on a regular basis, but for a special occasion — or to make yourself feel deserving while you “act as if” — it can be highly effective.)

And then, the real pampering began…

Tapping Into The Inner Child

Barry and Heather photo boothYesterday Barry and I went to Ashland for a craft fair, did some Christmas shopping, then headed up to Medford.

In Medford, we spent an hour or two getting lost in the Barnes & Noble bookstore… where he instantly manifested several types of books he was looking for.

The first one was a book that had a similar format to another he had wanted to find, that was to serve as inspiration for the formatting of my upcoming Success Unwrapped book. And even though he had never seen or heard of this book he picked up, it was exactly what we needed — and it only took a few minutes to find it.

Then he wanted a research book that was newer and went deeper than the one he had already picked up, on a topic we’re going to write about… and moments after putting the first one back on the shelf, he found it.

But his manifesting abilities were not perfect… we had a bet over the color of a new cat bed we picked up, and whether it was the same color as the one we had. He said yes, and if he was right, I would have had to do five nights of both cooking and cleaning.

I said no — the old one was slightly greener than the new one — and if I was right, he would have to give me five nights of massages.

Gratitude, Appreciation, and Giving Thanks

All my life I’ve been celebrating Thanksgiving about six weeks before my birthday, and Christmas about six weeks after my birthday.

That’s because in Canada, Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October. Everyone wonders why, but it’s pretty simple… the crops need to be harvested sooner up north, and since Thanksgiving was created to give thanks for the harvests, Canadian Thanksgiving was earlier.

Having said that, it’s worth pointing out that in Southern Oregon… just about an hour north of the California border… I’m actually on a higher latitude than I was in Toronto, Canada. But still, the weather here is warmer… go figure.

Anyhow, I just shared a video and a powerful exercise over on the LWL Worldwide blog that shows you why gratitude is so important to manifesting what you want… so I’d like to invite you to check it out. The post is called “Giving Thanks and Getting Desires

But while you’re here, I’d like to share another video with you here. I thought it was going to be religious-focused because it’s done by a monk, but it’s really just inspirational about being grateful for the little things:

YouTube Preview Image

Speaking of the little things, Barry just sent me a chat that said:

look forward to watching the movie, tonight, with you – grateful for times like dat

And I’m very grateful, not only for the times we spend together, enjoying each other’s company, but for the little notes like that. They make my heart skip a beat, and realize how lucky I am to have found someone special like him.

Go Heather, It’s My Birthday…

Today is my birthday.

The first birthday I’ve ever spent in the U.S.

The first birthday I’ve had with Barry as my partner… and that perk came complete with a full weekend of celebration, a nice dinner, some wine, and several beautiful presents that I’m very grateful for.

And yes, I’ve been loving every minute of it.

I remember a few years ago, a co-worker of mine who turned 25 said something to the effect of, “When you get to be my age, you don’t count the birthdays anymore.” And of course he was more than 10 years younger than me when he said it.

Not only that, but I had asked him if he was going to use a “personal day” (days off that we had to use or else lose) for his birthday, and he knew that I had done that on mine… so his answer didn’t make sense, because if I was still celebrating birthdays at my age, why shouldn’t he be at his?

Well, it’s mostly about the mindset.

I find a lot of people put a big weight on their age, and they allow the numbers to affect how they feel.

For me, I focus on how I feel first.

The Power of Instant Manifestation

I’m eating a sugar-free Twizzlers strawberry twist right now… the same brand of red licorice that used to be my absolute favorite when I was a kid.

I had to buy the package — in fact, I had to buy TWO packages — because it instantly manifested in front of my eyes.

Now in case you’re thinking, “poof, there it is!” when I talk about instant manifestation happening right before my eyes… that’s not how it works, and that’s not what happened.

It’s magical, but it’s not magic.

Editor’s Note — Added After Publication: In a humorously synchronistic event that completely jives with the vibe of this post, Barry was just reading this and said, “Hey, didn’t you know that 2 1/2 years ago, I ended my Manifesting Mindset e-book with a similar phrase?”

No, I didn’t know that… but what he wrote was “It’s Not Magic… But It Can Be Magical!;-)

When you see a magician make something appear before your eyes, it really didn’t. It just looks like it did, through an illusion. That “illusion” (and some illusions are more illusionary than others) is what we call magic.

But when you manifest something, and suddenly it’s in front of you, it’s not quite an illusion… except for the fact that, on a quantum physics level, all of reality is an illusion. But the thing you’re manifesting is as real as our reality allows it to be, hence the word “manifest”. It’s just that the experience, the way that real thing becomes part of your reality, is magical.

I know, it might seem like I’m talking in circles, or not making sense… or even a little loopy. Okay, so let me clarify.

Here’s the story of how it went down…
