What Happens in Vegas…

Okay, I know they say “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”

But sometimes you just want to share it.

This is our last day in Las Vegas for a mini-vacation/business trip; Barry and I came here, not just to have fun, but to network.

Last night we got together with our friends from Mind Movies, Glen and Natalie Ledwell and Ryan Higgins. We all went to the Stratosphere, had an incredible dinner in the fine dining restaurant at the top, and shot a couple of short videos.

Mind Movies are an amazing concept for helping you manifest what you want, and they have spread around the internet like wildfire.

Here’s one that our friends Jafree Ozwald and Margot Zaher had made… you’ll be hearing more about them from me soon:

It’s pretty obvious that Mind Movies work, because Glen, Natalie and Ryan all have a great attitude towards business and life.

Before hooking up with the Mind Movies masterminds though, Barry and I had a few days on our own… and we learned, grew and developed even more than we do at home.

Beauty and Healing in Ashland

Today Barry and I went to Ashland, Oregon, to see our Rolfers/coaches and to enjoy the day…Ashland something we haven’t been doing enough lately with all the work we’ve had to take care of.

To the right is a long shot of Ashland, showing the beautiful landscape and the quaint town nestled among the natural setting.

It was taken by photographer Christopher Briscoe, probably in the summer time, because now, of course, the trees are breathtaking shades of red, orange and yellow with just a bit of green left over (mainly the evergreens, since they remain… well, ever green!) ;-)

One of the world’s largest Shakespeare festivals is held here, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

What’s interesting to me on a personal level is my ex-husband grew up in Stratford, Ontario, home of another of the world’s largest and most respected Shakespeare festivals, which I visited many times over the years. Ashland reminds me a lot of Stratford because of the Shakespearean flavor the town has, and it seems a little strange to be so close once again to one of the world’s finest festivals in the genre.

But my ex hated Shakespeare, so I only ever went to the plays with school friends or my parents. Barry, on the other hand, likes culture, so he and I are planning to go to a play at the Oregon one together next year, which I see as a very romantic outing.

My Perspective on Perspective

I just wrote an article for the Masters of the Secret affiliates to use on their blogs or newsletters… probably the most personal article I’ve ever shared with our community or affiliates.

It’s called Time-Flying: How to Employ the Law of Perspective to Master Manifesting; but I like to just refer to it as My Perspective on Perspective.

It’s about an experience Barry and I had when out hiking, just before I went to Toronto to get my stuff.

This is how it starts out:

Have you ever noticed that it always seems to take longer going somewhere than it does coming back?

It doesn’t matter if we’re walking or driving or taking a plane; I have never had the experience where it seemed to take longer on the way back, and I’m pretty confident in betting that your experiences have been the same.

Is it anticipation on the way to a destination that seems to make it take longer? That factor that prompts kids to repeatedly ask, “Are we there yet?” when on a travel vacation?

Or is it the grand-daddy of all fears, the fear that is at the basis of almost every fear known to man; the fear of the unknown?

The fear of the unknown is really why we think we’re afraid of success. It’s also why we’re afraid of failure, rejection, the dark, heights, public speaking, and yes, death. Think about it. When somebody asks you why you’re afraid of something, chances are you’re going to answer, “because I don’t know what’s going to happen if…”

Similarly, when you’re going somewhere you’ve never been before, you “don’t know what’s going to happen if…” which could conceivably make it seem longer than coming back from that destination, where you know exactly what’s in store for you.

How Life Changes in a Day

Yesterday I was from Toronto, Canada… today I’m from Southern Oregon. 3,000 miles and 3 time zones away.

Not to mention a different country.

How does that work?

Well, it was only a matter of time. My life has been changing, and moving forward. My values, my goals, my mission in life has been moving in one direction, while my husband Wil’s has been moving the other way.

It’s like we spent years walking along a path together until we finally reached a fork in the road, and I knew that I was meant to take one route while he took the other.

Seeking A Millionaire in Colorado

Am I alive?

It’s hard to tell… we’ve been working hard on shooting The Next Internet Millionaire in Colorado, and I’ve been on set for at least 12-14 hours a day, EVERY DAY!

Wow… and I thought I was used to tough production schedules when I did TV back in Toronto.

Speaking of production, these guys really know what they’re doing. It’s a professional television-quality set with a bunch of people who have never produced TV before. And they said it couldn’t be done!

(Heck, I would have been a lot further ahead in TV if people I was working with in Toronto were as dedicated as this… but then again, maybe that wasn’t meant to be).

So yes, a new internet millionaire will be found (or rather, made) in Colorado over the next week… but I can’t give any details about any of the competition aspects because of the non-disclosure agreement.

What I can talk about is the teachers, because they’ve all been made public… and my experiences behind the scenes, and off the set.

The first few days I got to know Joel Comm and Mark Joyner much better, as Mark was hanging out and willing to help pick up supplies needed for the shoot. So the three of us spent one Sunday having lunch, picking up props at Joel’s office, and then shopping at Staples… all the while discussing the merits or credibility of manifestation and the law of attraction.

It seems Joel and Mark are leaning towards the misconception that it means, “Poof! Your wish is my command,” and that manifestation mentors advocate not taking action when it comes to getting what you want.

Hmm… anyone who believes that really should be listening to Masters of the Secret… except that Joel and Mark probably never would, since it’s not something they desire exploring further.

Here I Go Again On My Own…

I’m about to head off to the airport on a three-week trip.

I’m reminded of the Whitesnake song, Here I Go Again

YouTube Preview Image

Interestingly enough, this song has been coming into my consciousness again and again recently (either playing on the radio in the car, or popping into my mind, or being referenced by someone, every week at least once for the past six months).

And yes, here I go again, on my own.

I feel I’m at a crossroads in my life. I’ve grown apart from one relationship, and I’m growing towards another.

What’s going to happen?

I don’t know. Do we ever know what’s going to happen in the future?

We can set intentions. We can set goals. We can expect the unexpected, and we can expect exactly what we want.

We can “act as if” and we can feel the feelings we’d have if it were already true.

But sometimes we just don’t know… sometimes we just need to wait for the right signs, the right signals, the right indications that we’re doing the right things.

Start Spreading the News… New York, New York

I just got back from a weekend in New York City for my family reunion… it happens every two years, and usually it’s at one of my aunts’ or uncles’ houses, and now that we’ve passed the torch to the next generation, at one of my cousins’ houses.

But for once, it was hosted by one of my generation who only has a small apartment in a big city… nowhere to park mobile homes or camp on the lawn, as some of the family have traditionally done.

Yup, that’s right… times are a-changin’, and my family descended from Minnesota, Kansas, Virginia, Saskatchewan and Ontario (that’s me) onto the Big Apple… Manhattan.

Start spreading the news,
I’m leaving today,
I want to be a part of it…
New York, New York…

Heather Vale in NY capAs a souvenir, I bought myself a NY Yankees cap…

Here I am in the La Guardia airport going home with it on; the picture was taken with my camera phone.

Barry’s got a NY Yankees cap too (a little older than mine), and I’m going to be seeing him on the next trip coming up, so we thought it might be interesting to see people’s reactions… two people wearing NY hats, everywhere but NY.

The most fun I had was on the first night, Saturday night, when my cousin Jim (the native New Yorker who grew up in Kansas City then lived in Chicago during the University years) took a few of us out for a night on the town. I was the instigator… my point was, it was Saturday night in New York city… why would we want to turn in with all our parents, right after the jazz show we all attended, when we were in the city that never sleeps?

Silly in Philly… Doing My Thing At JVAlert Live

This weekend I was at Ken McArthur‘s JVAlert Live Seminar in Philadelphia… it was actually my first JVAlert, and much more intimate than I expected.

I was supposed to spend the weekend interviewing as many speakers and experts as possible on video for a project Ken and I are working on, but there was a mixup in communication and I only could get three of them.

Lesson 1: Always confirm that things are in place as much as you can before taking action on them, to avoid miscommunications and breakdowns in the process.

Lesson 2: Keeping Lesson 1 in mind, don’t neglect to take action simply because you’re spending too much time trying to get it all right; nothing will ever go exactly according to plan, so jump in and be ready to adapt, overcome and improvise along the way.

And by the way, if you’re ever planning to do on-camera interviews (and you should consider that if you’re trying to do interviews for online info-products or traffic generators), here are a few tips to keep it professional looking.

These are assuming you want to be on-camera with the guest, rather than off-camera like a documentary:

1. On-Camera Positioning: Make sure you’re both facing towards the camera, but not looking at it; so you don’t want to be in profile to the viewers, you want them to see 3/4 of your face at least, but at the same time the conversation is with your guest, not the audience.

2. Interview Notes: Try not to work with notes, unless you’re doing a lot of editing and can cut out the parts with you looking at them; it’s best to listen and respond to the answers with another question.

But if you do have a list of topics you’d like to cover, consider making a list of one-word bullet points that you can place off to the side and glance at occasionally from where you’re sitting.

3. Mic Technique: If it’s a short interview, you can use a hand-held mic; don’t forget to point it towards the guest’s mouth when they’re speaking, and to yourself when you’re speaking. Practice with a hairbrush if you have to.

But if it’s a longer interview, you’ll need to use lavs or a boom mic; you’ll never be able to hold up the hand-held mic for that long.

Barry and Jody, my partners at Masters of the Secret, also came to this one. Jody spends most of his time behind the computer, so it’s great to get him out mingling with people.

And Barry and I just love meeting others face to face that we’ve worked with over the internet, so it was a perfect opportunity to expand our circle of influence, meet some new contacts, and for me, some new interviewees.

Burning Hot And Unwrapping In Atlanta

With Jason Oman speakingI just got back from my first event speaking in the internet marketing arena.

And I have to say, it was a blast!

It was Ken McArthur‘s Get Your Product Done workshop in Atlanta, Georgia, and it was HOT!

Actually the event was quite intimate — not your average big seminar, but about 30 to 40 participants working with us one-on-one between the speeches.

I shared the stage with Harris Fellman, Jason Oman, Matt Bacak, Simon Leung, Alex Nghiem, Frank Sousa, Glenn Dietzel, Ben Mack, and more.

The picture above some of us on the expert panel, listening to Jason Oman make a point.

The whole event was about product creation… so of course I spoke about interviewing, and had my new product for sale: Interviewing Unwrapped.

Chicago, Chicago, It’s My Kind of Town!

Charles Amith, Heather Vale, Barry GossI just got back from a weekend trip to Chicago… where Barry Goss and I attended the System Seminar.

Apparently Barry has been wanting to attend it for years… but it was actually the first I had heard of it. Coincidentally, Brad Callen wanted me to interview Ken McCarthy for him — the founder of System Seminar — so it was one of those small world “coincidental” stories (except that there’s no such thing as coincidences).

Anyhow, I was able to work a deal with Ken for tickets in exchange for some work — and Barry paid for the hotel and airfare as an exchange for his ticket, so it didn’t cost me anything but some time.

The seminar itself didn’t deliver the type of advanced info I was hoping for — there’s a choice of sessions to take, and the ones I chose all seemed kind of basic for me. But I did get a chance to meet Perry Marshall, Tim Knox, Sherman Hu and Gary Ambrose face-to-face for the first time, after interviewing both of them on the phone.

I also met Charles Amith, who had been an affiliate for ClickBank Affiliate Confessions (that’s him on the left in the picture), as well as Ari Galper and John Carlton, among others.

But probably the most fun was connecting with Barry, face to face for the first time.
