{"id":119,"date":"2008-03-01T11:23:49","date_gmt":"2008-03-01T19:23:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/2008\/03\/01\/what-happens-in-reno\/"},"modified":"2023-04-17T16:13:10","modified_gmt":"2023-04-18T00:13:10","slug":"what-happens-in-reno","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/2008\/03\/01\/what-happens-in-reno\/","title":{"rendered":"What Happens In Reno&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=https:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/2008\/03\/01\/what-happens-in-reno\/&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=1&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light&amp;font=\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:25px\"><\/iframe><iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fheathervale.com%2Fblog%2F2008%2F03%2F01%2Fwhat-happens-in-reno%2F&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=true&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light&amp;height=80\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:80px;\" allowTransparency=\"true\"><\/iframe><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/images\/RenoRoadtrip-MtShasta01-small.jpg\" title=\"Mount Shasta\" alt=\"Mount Shasta\" align=\"right\" height=\"274\" width=\"419\" \/>Barry and I spent yesterday, Leap Day (kind of an extra day, if you think about it) on our first major road trip&#8230; driving 6 hours from Oregon through California to Reno, Nevada.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a beautiful trip, through the mountains and then the forests, and this picture is indicative of what we got to appreciate as we drove.<\/p>\n<p>(Well&#8230; Barry drove, and I rode beside him, taking pictures!) \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>They say &#8220;What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas&#8221;&#8230; but what about what happens in Reno, further upstate?<\/p>\n<p>Why is Reno called &#8220;The Biggest Little City in the World&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>Why is Vegas known for quickie weddings, while Reno is known for quickie divorces?<\/p>\n<p>And why has Reno not grown to the size of Vegas all these years later?<\/p>\n<p>There are a lot of things to ponder&#8230; but mostly I&#8217;m concentrating on enjoying the trip and being grateful for being able to share the experience (the natural beauty, the personal togetherness, the fun with friends and colleagues) with Barry.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The best things in life come when we&#8217;re grateful for what we already have, and appreciate every experience, big or small.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That includes the Biggest Little City in the World&#8230; or the Littlest Big City, or the Littlest Little City, or the beautiful mountains, the trees, the lakes, the oceans, or what-have-you.<\/p>\n<p>Or just each other.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/images\/Heather-Taz-Reno01-small.jpg\" title=\"Heather and Taz\" alt=\"Heather and Taz\" align=\"left\" height=\"281\" width=\"375\" \/>And another experience that I appreciated is when Barry won me a disco-purple sparkly Tasmanian Devil from a game at the Circus Circus casino.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s been promising to win me something at the fair for months, and Circus Circus has a gaming section that&#8217;s almost like a fair&#8230; so fair game (pun intended).<\/p>\n<p>Purple is one of my very favorite colors, and Barry knew that &#8212; and specifically pointed out Taz before winning it.<\/p>\n<p>Our first prize manifestation!<\/p>\n<p>So it was a great opportunity to be goofy and have a little fun in this photo.
