If you do a lot of traveling and like to work on the road, it makes sense to take a laptop along, but you can also work from home (or the park, the gym, the coffee shop, etc.) with the same machine.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I have both a desktop and a laptop machine, because the desktop is more robust for recording interviews and working with large multi-media files. But in the past, I have existed with a laptop and nothing else, and I can see why it\u2019s a good choice for many.<\/p>\n<p>If that\u2019s you, I\u2019m sure you agree that having the right peripherals makes working with a laptop that much easier.<\/p>\n<p>So here\u2019s my list of <strong>Top 10 Must-Have Laptop Accessories<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/USBdrivepink.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1223 alignright\" style=\"float: right;\" title=\"USBdrivepink\" src=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/USBdrivepink.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"118\" height=\"118\" \/><\/a>1. <\/span>USB Drive: <\/strong>Whether you like a portable thumb drive, or a larger external drive with tons of storage, you\u2019re going to need extra space for all your files. Thumb drives are great for transporting data to another computer, and large USB drives make excellent back-up drives (trust me, you need to back up your data) as well as providing storage for daily use.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">2.<\/span> Laptop Mouse: <\/strong>That little touch pad built into your laptop is difficult to use, but you can easily add an external mouse. Choose either a small USB model with a short cord, or go for a wireless mouse\u2026 just don\u2019t forget the batteries.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/keyboard.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1233\" style=\"margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;\" title=\"keyboard\" src=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/keyboard.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"128\" height=\"128\" \/><\/a>3.<\/span> External Keyboard: <\/strong>If you\u2019re typing a lot, the small built-in keyboard might not serve your needs. Consider a USB or wireless keyboard that you can position as you like, which will also improve your posture and screen visibility.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/headset.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1232\" style=\"float: right;\" title=\"headset\" src=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/headset.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>4.<\/span> Microphone Headset: <\/strong>If you\u2019re listening to presentations or music, you\u2019ll probably want to use headphones for privacy. By choosing one with a built-in mic, you\u2019ll also be able to record your own multi-media projects or communicate with people via Skype or other voice-based services.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">5.<\/span> Laptop Speakers: <\/strong>The integrated speakers might be fine for some things, but to really hear how your PowerPoint presentation sounds, or to listen to music without headphones, a portable pair of laptop speakers is a good investment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">6.<\/span> Laptop Desk or Stand: <\/strong>Chances are, you rarely actually put your laptop in your lap. However, if you spend time working in airports or public areas, you might have the need to do so. To keep a cool buffer between your computer and yourself, it\u2019s best to use a laptop desk. And when you\u2019re working at a desk or table, a stand will put the monitor at a better height for viewing; if possible, choose a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laptopstand.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">laptop stand<\/a> that will serve both purposes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/purplesleeve.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1222\" style=\"margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px; float: left;\" title=\"purplesleeve\" src=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/purplesleeve.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"107\" height=\"107\" \/><\/a>7. <\/span>Laptop Case: <\/strong>It can be a large briefcase-style case, a computer backpack, or a sleek <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laptopsleeve.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">laptop sleeve<\/a>, but yo<strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\"> <\/span><\/strong>u definitely need something to carry yo<strong> <\/strong>ur computer in if you ever take<strong> <\/strong> it anywhere.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">8. <\/span>Car A<\/strong><strong>dapter: <\/strong>If you drive a lot, or work from your car, consider a car adapter that fits in the cigarette lighter. This will let you work without using battery power, or charge your laptop during road trips.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">9. <\/span>Back-up Battery: <\/strong>Since your power may die at any inopportune moment \u2014 often when there\u2019s no electrical outlet around \u2014 I recommend having a second battery on hand. Just swap it out, and you\u2019re good to go.<strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/USBhub.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1227\" title=\"USBhub\" src=\"http:\/\/heathervale.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/USBhub.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"122\" height=\"122\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">10. <\/span>USB Hub: <\/strong>Because laptops don\u2019t usually have very many built-in USB slots, it\u2019s a good idea to have a USB hub. This will plug into one of your USB slots, and offer multiple places to plug in more USB peripherals.<\/p>\n<p>There are lots more laptop accessories you can get, but those are my favorites and the ones I definitely recommend.
