I’m sitting here unwrapped… literally… except for a blanket from the couch (so I guess I’m actually wrapped).
The reason I’m not wearing any clothes is because I just had a massage/Rolfing session from Barry. Kind of like the epitome of pain and pleasure in life (Rolfing can be painful before the pleasure, while the oily Swedish part of the massage is just messy along with the pleasure).
“Don’t forget to breathe,” Barry kept reminding me, as I would tense up.
“Be in the moment and just enjoy it.”
When I took that advice to heart, I was able to enjoy both the physical sensations and the emotional sensations that go with it. Yes, when the physical body is worked, it releases emotional energies that were stuck as well.
What kept coming to me were overwhelming feelings of love and gratitude, intermingled with stress and thoughts of guilt and fear.
Both are actually good, because it allows me to focus on where my emotions are stuck and deal with them either by enjoying them (the love and gratitude) or taking a closer look at the cause (the stress, fear and guilt).
Nothing beats a professional massage or Rolfing session. Having a trained expert manipulate and work your muscles to release the tension and stuck energies, and bring on relief, is a beneficial treat and usually worth every penny.
But at the same time, nothing is as touchingly special as being massaged by someone you love. The connection you feel as love energy comes through their hands and touches not only your body, but your soul, is something that can’t be duplicated any other way.
I happen to be lucky in that my partner is damn good at giving massages of all types. But even if your significant other isn’t a longtime student of alternative healing who is able to duplicate nearly everything he experiences, you can still feel the closeness and togetherness that mutual massage can bring.
I suggest picking up some massage oil (I like vanilla scented ones) to make the process easier on the skin, and then starting with just a nice oily back-rub where you work your partner’s shoulders and back, moving your hands in circles or gently kneading. Then switch and let the other partner have a turn.
As you’re massaging your partner, concentrate on pouring love through your hands into their body.
As you’re being massaged, concentrate on feeling the love that’s eminating from them. Close your eyes, feel grateful for the experience, be in the moment… and don’t forget to breathe!
