Earlier today Barry and I went to see a husband-and-wife healing team in the nearby town of Talent, Oregon… chiropractor and Kinesiologist Tom Clunie, and magnetic healer Jessica Bryan.
For years I have been following a restrictive diet to keep digestive issues under control. It’s called the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (or SCD) and was created by the late Elaine Gottschall, author of Breaking The Vicious Cycle, who I had the pleasure to meet several times, since by coincidence she used to live near Toronto where I was.
But a few months ago, when I was going through my initial life changes and transitioning from a 14-year marriage to a new relationship, and first dealing with the initial stress of that situation, the digestive issues started flaring up.
When it became clear that the diet alone was no longer working as well as it had, I decided to start experimenting with some of the foods I had previously avoided: mainly sugar, starch, and some dairy (and that small list includes bread, cereal, grains, potatoes, corn, pasta, rice and so forth… which, of course, meant almost all processed or pre-packaged food, all “junk food”, and more).
I have nothing against avoiding processed and packaged foods, which usually have far too many preservatives and additives to be good for us… but I wanted a little more flexibility if I still had to deal with the pain.
After all, if I’m living a Life Without Limits… why would I want so many restrictions?
So I started experimenting, and didn’t notice a big difference either way with my body, regardless of what I was eating. But since I was still on a bit of a roller coaster (making huge strides forward when I realized there was a big emotional component to the physical issues, but then sliding back into another series of flare-ups) I wanted to find out once and for all if I might be sensitive to certain foods — not ALL the foods I had been avoiding, because the SCD bans all foods that MAY cause digestive upset — but just ones that were problems for me.
So I followed my gut (literally) and went to see Tom.
It’s interesting how that came about, because Barry and I had seen Jessica at the psychic fair in Grants Pass last month, but didn’t have time to get a healing from her there. She’s what’s known as a Magnetic Healer in the Energy Healing of the Philippines tradition, and Barry and I both were interested in getting a session.
So we called her to make an appointment, but while talking to her, she suggested that Tom do food sensitivity tests on me first — something I had been specifically looking to get done, so that manifestation seemed perfect.
He did basic Kinesiology, or muscle-testing. But instead of pushing down on my outstretched arm as I’ve seen done, he pulled at my arm held tightly at my side as I lay on the chiropractic table and he put various foods on my solar plexus. It seemed more effective this way, and I couldn’t see what foods he was placing on me to test my sensitivity to, so there’s no way the results could have been influenced by me.
According to Tom, the only food sensitivities I seem to have are sugar and high-lactose dairy. But interestingly, some foods that I tested, like breakfast cereals, had some sugar in them — and yet they didn’t cause me to test weak. So I would have to think that sugar in limited amounts might be okay for me, and that sentiment was confirmed later by Jessica.
Tom also gave me a self-test that I could do on whatever foods I didn’t bring in. It wasn’t working for me as well as I had hoped, so I looked online to see if I could find another variation, and came up with this page at Lady Barbara’s Garden. It’s a similar technique to what Tom showed me, but this way seems to work much more effectively for me.
I’m going to quote a bit from Lady Barbara here:
Simply put, you hold the substance in question in the hand you write with, holding it in front of your forehead. You should be standing steadily with your feet apart, take a breath, bring your awareness OUT of your head and down to your GUT where your real WISDOM resides, and close your eyes.
Now. You pass the bottle of ‘whatever’ relatively slowly down in front of your body until it is in front of your lower abdomen (those of you who read Chakra-eze, know what we just did here) Stand there with it for a bit and you will feel your body respond.
A great way to teach someone this technique is to leave them right there and not tell them what to expect. A strong positive or negative response will have them suddenly opening their eyes very WIDE as it is quite unmistakable. If you’re having a problem FEELING the response, you may want to unlock your knees…
A strong positive response causes your body to lean forward, a strong negative – to lean back. (Although I am beginning to hear of responses that are more ‘buzzing’ or ‘vibrating’ than actually ‘swaying’ back or forth.) In watching many, many folks do this, I have seen two different kinds of ‘neutrals’. One is to stand completely still. No pull forward OR backwards. The other is to keep wavering forward and back over and over.
But the bottom line was that, once again, I was told my physical problems were symptoms of emotional causes; for instance the liver represents anger, the kidney represents fear, and the colon represents letting go.
In my session with Jessica, she did some psychic readings that pretty accurately pin-pointed some things that have been going on in my life. Then she did the hands-on healing part, which apparently involves pulling negative energies from your body and releasing them.
This is an excerpt from Jessica’s pamphlet:
This is not healing with actual magnets, but, rahter, a way of drawing negative energy out of the body, mind and spirit. Magnetic Healing is a form of energy healing. It creates a positive inner environment that promotes self-healing.
I have to say, I didn’t feel as much during the actual healing as I expected to. I thought I would feel a strong cleansing, and maybe even sense negativity being pulled from my body, but it was actually rather peaceful.
However, that seems to go with what her pamphlet says… creating a positive inner environment that promotes self-healing. So it very well could be that the actual physical healing really kicks in later.
But the insight she gave me echoed a lot of what Donna told me last week, and validated a lot that I had been feeling or thinking, so that may be the biggest power of the session in itself.
