A couple of days ago, a fan of Masters of the Secret wrote to me on Facebook, and told me she liked the video that Barry and I did on top of the mountain in Colorado…
And she wanted to know if there was drinking involved. đ
Barry and I had a little giggle over that, but then we thought about it a bit harder.
Isn’t it interesting that in today’s world, with so many celebrities heading into rehab, people assume that having fun or being a bit silly, and just letting go of the inhibitions most of us carry around with us, means that there has to be alcohol (or drugs) in the equation?
In all honesty, we had a bottle of wine with us… but we couldn’t have opened it if we’d tried (turns out we never found a place to enjoy it even if we’d wanted to) because Barry had left the bottle opener on the counter in the hotel room.
Yeah… never let a guy pack for a picnic. đ
But perhaps we were drunk anyhow… drunk on wisdom.
We were kind of giddy with the thought of shooting a teaching video on top of a mountain, with a gorgeous view, which unconditionally represented freedom and a life without limits.
Sharing knowledge is our passion, and usually we rely on experts that we’re interviewing to give the goods while we ask the probing questions to reveal those goods, but this time Barry had spent time with an expert, been inspired by their conversation, and wanted to share the concepts he had been taught in his own words.
Yeah, it’s exciting to take that step… especially someone who always used to say he didn’t want to be a teacher, and only started stepping into that role (which he does very well) through my encouragement, and his own realization that he does have something valuable to share.
And yes, dispensing knowledge that you know may — just maybe — affect someone else’s life for the better is the best feeling in the world. It makes you feel powerful and giving all at the same time.
And then of course, there was the altitude.
If you’ve ever been 12,000 feet above sea level, you probably had the same experience I had (fighting off nausea, dizziness and headaches) or the same experience Barry had (finding yourself short of breath, as if you’d just run a mile, after walking a few yards).
And yes, the light-headedness can feel a little bit like being drunk.
But no… definitely there was no drinking involved (except bottled water), and we were able to have a great time regardless.
We were able to be silly, to have fun, to connect with each other, and to appreciate nature… all while being in a state to remember (and treasure) the whole experience later.
So sometimes we’re better off just getting drunk off the beauty of life.
And embracing every minute for all it’s worth.
